Rest stop on Great River Road north of Dubuque, Iowa
There are many islands in the river.

More islands. This upper part of the Mississippi River is a wide wetland area and only has more defined boundaries because of the system of locks and dams on the river.
[Along with the trees seemingly growing out of the river, there are patches of what seems to be grass lying atop the water in irregular shapes.]
