Sunrise over Midland buildings on October 8, 2014
[The sun just below the horizon backlights the buildings and street light posts in the distance. Above the many scattered clouds is blue sky. The clouds are white at the top of the image, but shades of grey, white, and yellow closer to the horizon.]

September 11, 2014
[The bright yellow-orange orb of the sun is just above the horizon, but its light is partially blocked by the buildings in the distance and the cloud bank above the horizon. The upper part of the sky is cloud-free and thus rays eminating from the sun can be seen.]

September 3, 2014
[The dark flat horizon has a few fully-leafed trees extending dark splotches skyward. In between the horizon and a dark grey cloudbank with a flat bottom is a bright orange stripe of sky. The sun is just below the horizon so a small portion of cloud underside is pink.]

September 30, 2014
[A closer view of the city buildings a bit later in the morning shows rays of the sun hits the underside of the big cloud. The sun is still below the horizon and the skay is a profusion of yellow and orange.]

October 8, 2014
[Behind the dark buildings and trees on the street are stripes of bright orange-pink against a blue sky. Small dark grey dots of clouds sit above the stripes.]

This image and the next depict how quickly the color can change during sunrise as I shot them them within minutes of each other on October 9, 2014.
[I stood at one end of the street and looked toward the sunrise end where I viewed an expanse of white just above the house at the end of the street. The entire sky was completely covered with clouds. The lowest portion of the undersides of the clouds are pink while the rest is shades of blue-grey. The density of pink increases the further the clouds are from the camera.]

The higher the sun rose, the lighter the undersides of the cloud became.
[Same view as the prior image except all pink has been replaced with yellow.]

A close view of the clouds lit by the sun on the morning of August 28, 2014. They remind me of a painting.
[Small spots of blue dot this image as the sun lights the right-most edges of the cloud sections. These clouds are very irregular in shape so lots of distinct color changes within the image ranging from light-blue to dark blue and pinkish-white.]

The sun played peek-a-boo on September 3, 2014 as it cleared the horizon and then cleared a massive cloudbank. I love the rays and birds in this image.
[The bottom third of this photo is a cloud bank with one slit to open sky in the middle of it. Through this slit the glowing orb of the sun shines and extends its rays visibly out the top of the cloud bank. Black marks (birds) pepper the sky just above the cloud bank. The color tones on this are nearly all white and shades of grey.]
