Sunset over Lake Chatauqua on a mostly cloudy day
[Several photos stitched together to give a view of the partially frozen lake under a very cloudy sky at sunset with just enough breaks in the clouds to see a partially reflection of them on the water.]

Homes on the far shore of Lake Chatauqua
[Along the snow-covered hillside leading down to the lake are several dozen two and three-level houses. The lake in the foreground was iced over but patches have begun to melt.]

Scenic viewpoint on New York Route 11 south of Olean, New York (and just north of the Pennsylvania border)

The scenic viewpoint at dusk the day after a heavy snow
[Several photos stitched together showing multiple snow-clads hills on which sits mostly barren trees but there are some evergreens giving blotches of color. In the foreground the reddish-brown branches of trees are specked with globs of white.]

These trees were across the road from the scenic viewpoint parking lot.
[The darkness of the clouds make this appear to nearly be a black and white photo of the tall evergreens. The limbs are drooping from the heavy snow upon them.]

Snow Ridge ski slopes in the springtime
[A hillside complete covered with trees just beginning to leaf except for two patches of grass which extend from the top of the hillside to the bottom. At the bottom of the hill is a big patch of evergreen trees.]

Roadside views - Lewis County, New York (Normally there is much, much more snow at this time of year.)
February 3, 2012

Roadside view of a farm
[A spent cornfield with two silos on the left with one tree further left and one tree on the right. A swath of thin clouds frames the trees and silos. No snow is visible.]

So unusual to be able to see the ground here in February.
[Rolling fields of mowed corn with bare trees scattered throughout.]

Here's a little snow.
[Plowed dirt with streaks of snow in the parts of it. Clear blue skies above a swath of clouds across the horizon.]

Peck farm
[Coming down a hill in a car the view spread out before us was of the frozen water ponds on either side of the road and multiple large buildings across the intersection with the frozen river in the background. Snow can be see only at the edges of the roads.]

Windmills along Route 177
[Houses with trees around them in the foreground with five windmills on the hill above them. One is much closer and thus larger than the other four. The blades are turning and thus each in different positions.]

More windmills along Route 177
[One large, white windmill with a tree at its base giving size perspective. In the far distance are six more windmills as well as other trees appearing very small in comparison to the windmills.]

Continue to see Lewis County later in February. (page 4 of 8)
